Drayton Hall

A really old preserved home at a former plantation outside Charleston, Drayton Hall is a kind of historical window. Happened to meet a descendant of one of the plantation's slaves while there--she was visiting for the first time since she was a girl, and seemed overwhelmed emotionally.

 Plaster ceiling decoration.

I like how the family's record of heights has been preserved...
 A servants' staircase.

Apparently this staircase was the first of its design told to us by our former kindergarten teacher guide (who kind of unnervingly treated the group as if we were a group of 5 year olds--Don & I almost got a red card for lingering on the stairs.)

Chapel of Ease, St Helena Island

Resurrection fern, growing from a wall.

Returned here to show friends Judy & Steve...I think there are already photos from here on this blog, from a year and a half ago? Beautiful spot.

Old Sheldon Church near Beaufort SC

Finally getting around to posting photos from time away recently...

This church was originally built in 1745, burned by the Brits in 1779, rebuilt in 1826, and burned again in 1865 by the Federal Army. Wise not to rebuild...makes a cool ruin, anyway.

Torrey Pines State Park

One of my favorite places to hike--I've always loved the way the ocean breeze carries the scent of sage and saltwater up the hill...

The boys liked playing with the bull kelp once we got to the beach!
